Big Rivers’ safety record continues to receive recognition, with the company earning more Governor’s Safety and Health Awards than any other entity in Kentucky. Big Rivers has also earned eight consecutive Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance Destiny Award, which highlights companies for strong safety cultures and low experience modification rates. The energy field comes with unique dangers and requires detailed safety steps to prevent accidents. However, Big Rivers surpasses safety records from other high-performing Generation and Transmission (G&T) cooperatives. In 2023, all locations worked for one year without a recordable incident for the first time in company history. Our Transmission team, covering the lineworkers, substation technicians, and right-of-way employees, reached an impressive industry milestone of 13 years without a lost-time injury in 2023. Big Rivers employees make the safety program their own, putting the safety of themselves and their coworkers first in every job. The Big Rivers safety department also provides year-round training sessions, and a company incentive program encourages employees to take promote safe habits and report issues.
